Throughout Māori Language Week, we took to social with a word of the day to honour and celebrate our country’s beautiful native language. In case you missed it or if you just wanted a refresher, we’ve wrapped up the week with even more Te Reo Māori for you to learn, and even more ngā hū for you to shop.
Check out our huge range of footwear for the whole whānau, as you go.
Monday’s word of the day was ngā pūtu, which means boots!
Boots are a wardrobe staple for tāne (men), wāhine (women) and tamariki (children), all year round. So make sure you’ve stocked up on these number one styles.
Tuesday’s word of the day was ngā kamupūtu, which stands for gumboots!
Kōanga (spring) is the perfect time to be out in the garden, and our gumboots are the perfect pair to wear when getting stuck in.
Wednesday’s word of the day was ngā hū, meaning shoes.
And boy, do we have lots of them… 1000s in fact! We’ve assembled some of our newest number one ngā hū, so you can start updating your new season wardrobe.
Thursday’s word of the day was ngā hū konihi, which you might know as sneakers!
Probably one of the most popular fashion choices right now and for good reason… Sneakers can be dressed up or down, so you can stay cool & comfy no matter the occasion.
Friday’s word of the day was more of a phrase, and a little different to the rest of our shoe related words. Mauria te pono is to believe in yourself – a sentiment that we think everyone should live by every day of the week!
Saturday’s word of the day was ngā rekereke, and stands for heels!
We’ve got ‘em all - high heels, block heels, wedge heels, court heels - whatever ngā rekereke you’re after, we’ve got just the style to top off your Saturday night outfit.
Sunday’s word of the day was pīkau, otherwise known as backpack!
With the school term ending, you might notice your pīkau has seen better days, or you shoes for that matter. Freshen up before the school holiday rush with these back to kura (school) essentials.
Ka pai! Look at how many kupu Māori (Māori words) you’ve just learnt, but it doesn’t have to stop there… Make it Māori Language Week every week, or as often as you like. Learn a new word, a new phrase, and challenge yourself to use it in your day to day. Better yet, check out these Te Reo Māori courses & resources to take your language skills even further!
